The Washington Bus is a statewide movement building organization that increases political access and engages young people in the civic process. The Bus was born in 2007 to address the low rates of electoral participation among young people, and the lack of public leadership roles for 15- to 29-year-olds in Washington State. We were founded because traditional modes of civic and political engagement leave young people out.

We focus our resources on empowering young people of color, young women, LGBTQ youth, immigrant and refugee communities, and first generation college students. The Bus addresses the systematic and economic barriers that hold young people back from deep civic engagement and supports a rising generation of leaders. We activate our generation through education, civic participation, and hands-on democracy, and work to put the young people most often excluded from the political process at its center.

Since our inception, we have become a trusted messenger to a generation that values relationships over any other currency. We have registered over 50,000 young voters, run innovative educational campaigns both on and offline, trained over one hundred highly skilled young leaders, and engaged hundreds more into their taking their first civic action. The Bus is Washington's leading edge on young people's civic engagement, and connecting social justice values to policy.
