SOUND THEATRE COMPANY (STC) is a Gregory Award winning theatre company (2014 and 2016 Theatre of the Year) which explores the roles of language and music in our contemporary lives. STC was launched in 2006 by Founding Artistic Director Teresa Thuman with a site-specific production of "The Tempest" presented in the lake and on the shore of Lake Sammamish. Since then, STC has continued to present cutting-edge professional quality productions. STC does not have a resident performance venue, but produces regularly in the summers at the Center Theatre at the Seattle Center Armory and is an itinerant theatre company during the winter months. A few productions emphasized the role of music as a way to push the boundaries of musical theatre. These include the recent production of "Parade," "The Wild Party," (Winner of 2014 Gregory Award for Outstanding Musical Production), and the addition of a live cello and original compositions to "The Belle of Amherst." Recent seasons have emphasized social justice themes and the role of race in our society and culture. Our primary goals are to continue to demonstrate excellence and experimentation in our production work while taking artistic risks and strengthening our management structure.
