PO Box 732
Lopez Island, WA 98261-0732
32% (895 individuals) of the 2,797 Lopez residents have insufficient income for their basic needs. 165 individuals have income below 50% of the poverty line. This is a combination of seniors and younger, hardworking (often with multiple low wage jobs) individuals and families. Households live in substandard housing without indoor plumbing, electricity or reliable sources of heat. Community members are dealing with the trauma of mental health, substance abuse, and/or domestic violence. Fighting for survival creates toxic stress.
Because critical needs persist on Lopez, LIFRC provides both direct service and advocacy. LIFRC offers 29 services/programs in 5 focus areas including: 1) Access to Household Support, 2) Social Emotional Support, 3) Learning Opportunities, 4) Youth Development Programs, and 5) Advocating for a Just Community. We value empowering, listening and working in partnership; learning about best practices; understanding our outcomes to maximize our impact; and striving for innovative solutions by blending ideas to assure lasting change. Building trusting relationships is an important foundation leading to a more resilient community. We strongly believe that LIFRC's focus and programs lead towards a more just society and strengthen the capacity of our entire community.
