Friends of the Chilberg Link
Friends of the Chilberg Link with the Department of Neighborhoods, will beautify a sloped median that leads to Emma Schmitz Park, West Seattle.
105 S Main #235
Seattle, WA 98104
The first $2,500 raised by Friends of Chilberg Link through GiveBIG, will be matched, dollar for dollar, by our fiscal sponsor, Seattle Parks Foundation.
Friends of the Chilberg Link hope to transform the median on Chilberg Ave SW leading to Emma Schmitz Park into a space that can be used for meeting neighbors, food production, and an attractive display of landscape. Located in a unique, mixed-income neighborhood, the median was once a grassy plot planted with plum trees gifted by the City of Seattle circa 1999. Today the medan sits unattended, overgrown with weeds and invasive species. While community members still harvest fruit from the trees, the overgrowth of weeds and the height of the trees have become a hindrance. Friends of the Chilberg Link are hoping that an overhaul of the median will yield a space where people can enjoy easy fruit picking at an attractive food forest, as well as meet, sit and discuss new plans for the gardens! The group is also planning water collection features as well as art features that will create a visible link to Emma Schmitz Park.
